A logical device is created by grouping disk drives together to form a virtual storage unit. Each logical device includes RAID (the RAID level depends on how many disk drives are in the logical device) and can also include a hot spare for an additional level of data protection. Logical devices and volumes are then built from the storage space contained within that logical device.
Once a logical device is created, you can use Adaptec Storage Manager to increase its capacity, change its RAID level, and make other modifications.
